DESIGN PORTFOLIO

HONEY BEE, BLOOM

This collection, Honey Bee, Bloom was completed at the beginning of 2024 and was intended to push us out of our comfort zones when designing. The aim was to create something unique in response to an issue. My resloved and final concept is below.

These designs are a bitter response to the global issue of bee depopulation and its extensive environmental consequences. Drawing inspiration from the delicate beauty of bees and flowers, my collection aims to raise awareness and provoke thought about the urgent need for conservation efforts. Each garment features meticulously crafted, hand-made three-dimensional flowers, constructed from cotton organdy, pearls and gold alluminium wire. Not only do these ethereal blooms symbolize the fragility of our ecosystem and the interconnectedness of all living beings, but also serve as a reminder of the vital role bees play in pollination and our livelihood. Through these garments, I hope to not only showcase the exquisite beauty of nature but also to inspire action towards preserving it for generations to come.

HEIRLOOM

This collection, The Heirloom Collection serves two purposes: as a sentimental tribute and as a practical portfolio showcasing the technical and design skills I’ve gained. I chose to incorporate very special elements from my upbringing like the Romney wool from the farm, which I got spun into yarn which was then attached as applique onto my garments.

This final project is very sentimental as it is also influenced by one very special woman who has continuously helped shape the woman I am today. My grandmother, Jenny. She patiently and lovingly taught me how to sew, passing on her knowledge and skills. Inspired by my roots, I focused on natural fibers like wool, vintage aesthetics, and sustainability. While researching bridal collections and fabrics, I found many bridesmaid dresses were cheap and disposable, which I wanted to challenge. My designs aim to be versatile and sustainable, creating garments that can be worn beyond a single wedding day.
